So, I have to begin somewhere, just like with a new story, even if I feel like I’m talking to myself, which tends to be part of the process when I writing.

I have a favorite quote a friend gave me that sums up a writer. It is as follows:

“Many people hear voices when no-one is there. Some of them are called mad and are shut up in rooms where they stare at the walls all day. Others are called writers and they do pretty much the same thing.” — Meg Chittenden

True for me. As a writer, when the story begins to click, that is when my characters become real. It’s like watching a movie in my head. In their way, my characters guide and talk to me. They tell me the story, and I write down the interpretation.  I only get blocked when I’m taking the story in the wrong direction. I write the best when I go into a zone, where the world around me slips away and I’m in my story. It’s very cool when it happens, very zen. My best writing happens then.

In choosing to write Wicked Magic, it’s true I was responding to a submissions call, but I also wanted to lose the restrictions I’ve placed on myself as a writer–the things I was allowing to hold myself back. As a reader, you can tell when someone is holding back and not really into the story they are writing. When they try to follow a fad, instead of writing from their heart. I didn’t realize I was holding back, and not offering more diversity in my writing or characters, until I attended a writer’s convention over the Summer. I do write more than just the Erotic Romance. (Under my given name — I do write more mainstream fiction–YA, Adult paranormal, mystery, fantasy, scifi). I consider myself a hodgepodge of genres, and don’t really like to be classified in just one category. I loved the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone Shows when I was growing up. A story could be normal with that one unusual twist. The twist makes it interesting. Even when I write contemporary, I can’t help adding a little dash of paranormal or scifi to the mix.

Currently, I’m working on the second book in the Spellbound series. A modern twist on Alice in Wonderland. So many possibilities for my imagination to run wild.
